Subsea operations in the oil and gas industry are done in the deep sea, at four thousand (4,000) to eight thousand (8,000) feet. The exploratory wells go even deeper than ten thousand (10,000) feet. The hydraulic pressure of such a setting is immense, and the demand for effective gaskets to prevent oil/ gas leakages from flanges is vital. Among all types of gaskets, AX gasket, VX gasket, and CX gasket are specified for subsea applications in offshore drilling manufacturing systems. Due to their special features, they suit well on wellhead equipment such as Blow out Preventers (BOP), and are generally called subsea gaskets.

 

Description

 

Star 21 International manufactures AX, VX, and CX gaskets by forging, heat treatments, and machining. They are light weighted, and they should ideally have a hardness 15-20HB lower than that of the mating flange surface.

 

Most importantly, we ensure an effective seal, by avoiding defects like scratches, knock-marks, and cracks on our subsea gaskets, and we always maintain the surface roughness not to exceed 0.8.

 

Materials

 

At Star 21 International, these gaskets are typically manufactured of stainless steel, and they include a range of different kinds of metal, namely: Soft Iron, Low Carbon Steel, SS410, SS304, SS316(L), SS347, F5, Copper, Aluminum, Inconel 800, 625, 600,825, Monel 400, Titanium, Nickel 20, Hastelloy C276, B3, Zoronium 702, etc.

 

Our gaskets are standardly subjected to silver plating as the coat, and it provides excellent dry film lubrication that lasts long, long term corrosion prevention, metal to metal seal, and the ability to pack out of microscopic irregularities and defects on the gasket seat due to the softness and malleability of silver.

 

What is special about our subsea gaskets?

 

Our gaskets are generally used in the oil and petrochemical, and offshore industries, where deep-sea explorations and productions are done under highly pressurized conditions. The specialty of our subsea gasket is that it can be applied on valves, pipe-work assemblies, and vessel joints, where flanges are subjected to high pressure and high temperature. As they are pressure-energized, these RTJ gaskets perform their best at high pressure.

 

As our gaskets are coated ‘in-house’, they provide excellent sealing consistently. The most important fact to remember when using our subsea gaskets is that each and every single gasket is manufactured with a unique product stamping to offer full identification and traceability to the customers.

 

Application of AX, VX, and CX Gasket

 

When applying subsea gaskets, it is important to be aware of their parts and other details. Our subsea gaskets are manufactured in both standard and non-standard sizes. This includes API 6A, API 17D, ASME B16.20, DIN 2693-67, JPI-7S-23-72, and other standards. In fact, the customers can often get their AX gaskets manufactured or crafted according to the purpose and the condition of the devices and machinery that they will be applied on.
